Hurricane Charley
Hurricane Charley blew through Orlando on Friday the 13th of August, 2004. Charley was a category 1 (almost 2) storm when it came through here. We live in an apartment that faces north, so we didn't receive any damage at all. Our complex had many downed trees and some cars were buried under tree brances. The storm was fairly short, lasting only about 2 hours at most. We were without power for 6 days (8/19/2004) and without cable for 12 days (8/25/2004). There is still existing damage and lots of debris as of today. Now we wait for Hurricane Frances to come and damage Orlando some more. We are not looking forward to this. We went through Hurricane Andrew in 1992 when it went through Homestead, FL. We lost everything to that storm and had to start over. Here's hoping we don't have to do that again with Frances.
